Take the Next Step
Junior Football is the next step for kids who are ready to move on from NAB AFL Auskick or other introductory school and/or community programs. It’s the perfect environment for kids to have fun learning through play, make new friends and create memories that last a lifetime. Rules of matches are modified in the early Junior grades so children can continue to develop their skills in an enjoyable, safe atmosphere.
Kids are gradually introduced to competitive football in stages as they gain stills and confidence through Junior football into Youth football in U13s and above. We adopt a philosophy that ensures kids have a fun, safe and positive football experience that is suitable to their needs.
Junior/Youth Football 2024
Mosman Swans aims to field at least two teams in each age group for boys. Girls may play with boys up until U12s if they prefer.
From the U13 age group (for boys) players join the North Shore Swans which is an alliance between Mosman Swans, Willoughby Wildcats and Lane Cove Cats. This alliance will also operate for girls (U10 and above) from 2025. For 2024, girls will play with the Willoughby Mosman Swans, a joint venture with Willoughby Wildcats.
Age as at 31 December 2024 is used to determine age group eligibility. Children must be registered in the correct age group for their date of birth, i.e. children turning 9 in 2024 will be registered for U9s.
Any exceptional circumstances where a parent wishes a child to play out of their eligible age group should be discussed with the Registrar.
Under 9s and 10s are non-graded competitions, with the competition divisionalised on geographic boundaries to minimise travel. Under 9s and 10s are non-competitive, with no results posted, ladders kept or finals held. In Under 11 it moves to a graded structure, with teams divisionalised according to ladder position and ability, rather than geography.
Games are generally played on Sundays, as well as some Friday nights. Training is held mid-week in the evenings.
Uniforms
- There will be a uniform collection day at the start of the season. Alternate arrangements will be made if you are unable to collect on the day.
- Youth players who are part of an alliance or joint venture team will be provided with details separately on their uniform arrangements.
